ABOUT ME
Kim Nowacki
I’m an arts and culture writer turned digital media graduate student at the USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism in Los Angeles.
My work has appeared in Willamette Week, The Seattle Times, the Weekend Argus (Cape Town, South Africa) and Southern California Public Radio, among others. My full resume is here.
I often like to talk endlessly about “the future of journalism” and my goal in returning to school is to learn all I can about cultivating news websites that engage with readers and in converting print newsrooms into places that think Web first.
OK, I admittedly wrote the above paragraph years ago. It may have been in my grad school application essay. At the time I believed in those statements passionately. These days I don’t know how I feel about newspapers. Can they be “saved?” Should they?
What I do know is that I will always believe in is journalism, and I think this a hell of an exciting time to be a journalist. It’s pee-your-pants scary, too. I know that. But mostly I’m excited to be here at a time of innovation and experimentation.
It’s no surprise then, that most recently I’ve started researching the notion of entrepreneurial journalism: what is it, what does it take to make it work, who’s doing it successfully and how.
I’m also partial to music, movies, politics, throwing darts, a stiff drink and a great story to tell the morning after.
